(Download)NFO(View)(Download)BackgroundThe 2006 DVD release of Star Wars featured the original theatrical version of the film on disc 2. One of the main criticisms of this disc is that it is presented in non-anamorphic "letterboxed" format; there are also issues with heavy grain and aliasing ("jaggies").
Project DetailsThe "Lucasfilm Pwnage Edition" is a fan-made DVD with video that has been scaled to give an anamorphic image (i.e. enhanced for 16:9 widescreen televisions). The colour, brightness and contrast of the official release have also been adjusted slightly, and the video has been filtered to reduce the effects of aliasing and film grain.
The English subtitles for the Greedo scene have been re-formatted to approximately match the original theatrical font and positioning, and are now hard-encoded into the video.
The French and Spanish audio options present on the official DVD have been removed, and instead this disc features the original 1977 Academy mono track (from the
Mono Mix Restoration Project) and the 1977 Dolby Stereo (from a high-quality analogue capture of the 1985 pan & scan laserdisc audio). The digitally remastered soundmix from 1993 remains as audio track 1.
